Introduction to Active Collections (webinar)
Introduction to Active Collections (webinar)
Wednesday, December 3, 2025
2:00-3:30 PM EST
Unsure what you should collect and what you might be able to deaccession? Want to make your collections work for you, rather than working for the collections? An Active Collections approach can help your organization create leaner collections with greater impact. In this webinar, you’ll learn how societal trends are affecting what museum audiences need from collections and explore new approaches to collections acquisition, deaccessioning, cataloging, and oversight, with a focus on strategies for small organizations.
Presenters:
Rainey Tisdale is co-author and co-founder of Active Collections and a museum consultant specializing in interpretive & strategic planning, content & collections curation, institutional capacity building, and igniting the creative process.
Eileen Corcoran currently serves as the Director of Service & Outreach at the Vermont Historical Society, where she manages education and public programming alongside providing professional development, training, and support to the hundreds of local historical societies and museums around the state. She has over twenty-five years of experience working for museums and other cultural organizations in a variety of roles.
Hannah Kirkpatrick is the Program Coordinator for the Activating 21st Century Local History training program at the Vermont Historical Society. She works directly with cohort members to help them establish collections priorities and increase organizational sustainability. Hannah received her Master of Arts in History from the University of Vermont in 2022 and has worked with cultural heritage and community organizations in Vermont since.
