CCCA Virtual Workshop - Know it All: Inventory 101

A collections inventory can be a daunting prospect. But just about any organization, large or small would benefit from going through an inventory process.  The more you know about what you have, the better you can provide access to your collections, conduct research, develop programs & exhibits, and determine preservation needs. It is also important for insurance purposes or if your collection is impacted by a disaster.

The presenters will discuss different frameworks for approaching an inventory project, including the Active Collections approach and the archival approach; what goes into planning for an inventory project; and different strategies for getting the inventory started – and finished.  We will try to persuade you that an inventory project serves as a springboard to greater things:  it can rejuvenate your interest in what you’ve got and suggest new stories that could be shared with your community.

This webinar is intended for staff and volunteers at institutions large and small with artifacts, books, archives – you name it!   There will be some time for questions directly after the presentation.

Pre-registration is required and a Zoom link for the meeting will be sent to you closer to the meeting date. Space in the workshop is limited to 100 participants. Please register by September 15th.

If you can’t make it to the live event, you can still register for the workshop and we will send you the recording once it becomes available.

Presented by CCCA Directors Eileen Corcoran and Rachel Onuf

The cost of the virtual workshop is as follows:

  • free for CCCA Emerging Professional and Student Members

Your workshop fees and additional donations help our growing community of conservation and preservation professionals aid regional cultural heritage organizations in the care and conservation of their collections and materials.  As a non-profit corporation registered in the state of Vermont, the CCCA relies on the support of our membership and community to help us develop and promote affordable opportunities for training and networking and to improve the long-term preservation of these vulnerable collections.
